Zul Hijjah is the last month of Islamic Hijri Calendar, it combines many types of Ibadah in it including the Hajj.

Zu or Zi in Arabic means possessor of . In Urdu it is said Waala and the Word Hijjah means performing Hajj. Now Zul Hijjah or Zil Hijjah means the month in which Hajj is performed.

In the Holy Quran, Allah Subhanahu Ta’ala takes Oath of the first ten days of Zul Hijjah in Surah Al Fajr. When Allah Subhanahu Ta’ala takes Oath of Something then it is valuable and Virtuous.

In the Sayings of Prophet ? there is a lot of Virtues of the First Ten Days of Zul Hijjah.

Forbidden to remove hair, nails or skin

When the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah begin, it is forbidden for the one who wants to offer a sacrifice to remove anything from his hair, nails or skin

Umm Salama reported Allah’s Apostle (?) as saying:

If anyone of you intends to offer sacrifice he should not get his hair cut or nails trimmed. (Sahih Muslim 1977)

Possible Dates of Beginning Of Zul Hijjah

In Hyderabad (India) Zul Hijjah might Begin from 22nd July or 23rd July 2020. So it’s better to have nail cut or hair cut on 21st July for those who intend to Sacrifice on Eid ul Adha.

Virtues of First Ten Days of Zul Hijjah:

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (?) said, "There are no days during which the righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah)." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah, not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah?" He (?) replied, "Not even Jihad in the Cause of Allah, except in case one goes forth with his life and his property and does not return with either of it."

Fasting in First 10 Days of Zul Hijjah:

Abu Hurairah narrated that :the Prophet said:

"There are no days more beloved to Allah that He be worshipped in them than the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, fasting every day of them is the equivalent of fasting a year, and standing every night of them (in prayer) is the equivalent of standing on the Night of Qadr."(Sunan Tirmidhi 758)

Note: Fasting on 10th i.e., on Eidul Adha is Prohibited.

Fasting of Yaum e Arafah

 Abu Qatada reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah (?) and said:

....I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of 'Arafa may atone for the sins of the preceding and the coming years... (Sahih Muslim 1162)

Best Deed on 10th Zul Hijjah

It was narrated from ’Aishah that the Prophet (?) said:

“The son of Adam does not do any deed on the Day of Sacrifice that is dearer to Allah than shedding blood. It will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns and cloven hoofs and hair. Its blood is accepted by Allah before it reaches the ground. So be content when you do it.” 

(Sunan Tirmidhi 3126)
