Locomotion is the movement of an organism from one place to another.

It is either in search of food, shelter or to escape from predators

It is performed by many animals through walking, swimming, and flying.

The process of locomotion exhibited by organisms differs from their habitats and their situation.

Locomotion and movement are two different things.

Difference between Locomotion and Movement

Locomotions are voluntary structures whereas movements are voluntary or involuntary without moving from their original position.

Examples of Locomotion and Movement

To understand locomotion easily, here are some examples,

  • Going for work or
  • swimming in a pool

On the other hand, the examples of movement are

Blinking of an eye, breathing, or chewing without moving its position or location of the body

All locomotions are movements but all movements are not locomotions.
